Does everyone know what tile grout is? Simply put, tile grout is the material we use to fill the gaps when laying tiles. So, what exactly is the purpose of tile grout? How do you apply it? And what precautions should we take when using tile grout? Let’s now take a closer look at everything related to tile grout.

How to use tile grout, and what are the functions of tile grout?

How to use tile grout

1. Pour the dedicated mixing liquid into a clean container, then slowly add the grout and stir thoroughly until a smooth paste free of any lumps is achieved. Let it sit for 3–5 minutes, then stir again before use.

2. Squeeze the mixed grout into the reserved gaps along the diagonal of the bricks and stones, ensuring no voids are left. Use a scraping motion at an angle to the gap to remove any excess grout, taking care not to dislodge the grout already embedded in the gap.

3. After waiting 10–15 minutes or until the surface has dried, use a sponge, slightly damp cotton cloth, or towel to gently wipe the surface in circular motions, further pressing down on the sealant to ensure it is tightly packed and the surface becomes smooth.

4. After the grout has dried, use a sponge or a clean cotton cloth to wipe the surface of the bricks and stones, removing any residual grout. The amount of grout needed depends on the size of the joints to be filled: with 5 kg of grout, you can fill 4–5 square meters of 5-mm-wide joints, or 7–8 square meters of 3-mm-wide joints.

What is the function of tile grout?

Tile grout can be used to decorate the joints of tiles, mosaics, stones, wood panels, glass, aluminum composite panels, and other materials. This grout is meticulously formulated from a variety of high-molecular polymers and premium pigments, offering advantages such as water resistance, anti-seepage properties, and oil-repellency.

After curing, the tile grout forms a smooth, porcelain-like, pristine surface on the tile joints—smooth, wear-resistant, waterproof, oil-resistant, dirt-repellent, and boasting exceptional self-cleaning properties. It’s resistant to dirt accumulation, easy to clean, and leaves surfaces spotless with just a single wipe, thereby completely addressing the common problem of dirty, blackened tile joints that are notoriously difficult to clean. This product is suitable for both newly installed tile joints after renovation as well as those that have been in use for many years. It prevents joints from turning black and dirty, which could detract from the aesthetic appeal of your interior space, and also helps to inhibit mold growth, safeguarding your health.

Precautions for Using Tile Grout

1. Be careful not to use acidic cleaners to clean brick surfaces that have already been grouted.

2. Tile grout should not be applied under rain. Avoid rainwater flushing within 12 hours after completion of application; extra caution is required during rainy weather.

3. Do not mix dried-out mortar with water for a second use.

4. When carrying out large-area construction, remember to leave expansion joints. After construction, perform the first curing treatment 24 hours later, and the second curing treatment 48 hours later.

5. For unglazed tiles, antique-style tiles, and tiles with porous surfaces, it is recommended to use specialized grouting tools during installation to prevent contamination of the tiles.
